How it started

I studied business administration by distance learning. What cost me the most nerves were bookkeeping and cost accounting. You only get them by working through lots of exercises yourself, but I could hardly find exercises with solutions I could actually rely on.

My friends studying chemistry and other sciences had it even worse. They kept complaining that there are almost no good study methods for their subjects. In the end you still learn reactions by heart with flashcards.

So I started building what we were missing. Over time it turned into a whole study platform: you upload your lecture notes and get flashcards, summaries, a study plan up to your exam and practice exams. On top of that there is a tutor you can ask about your material.

And there are the subject trainers for the subjects where many people get stuck, such as journal entries, cost accounting, statistics or organic chemistry. You can practise with them as long as you like.

Where AI helps and where it doesn’t

I like using AI myself. But with worked solutions and chemical reactions it is wrong more often than you would think, and it still sounds completely sure of itself. When you are studying for an exam, that is the last thing you need.

That is why no AI makes up the exercises in the subject trainers. A program creates them from fixed rules and checks your answer exactly. If it says your solution is right, then it is right.

With your own material, on the other hand, AI is a big help. It turns your notes into flashcards and summaries, asks you exam questions and explains an exercise again when you are stuck.

What happens to your data

• The servers are in Germany. The app, database and files run on our own servers at Hetzner in Falkenstein.
• Your data is not sold. CleverSphere is paid for by subscriptions, not by advertising.
• Your notes belong to you. They are only used to create your own study material. For the AI features the text goes to Google’s Gemini API, which does not use it for training. If you delete your account, your files are deleted, and removed from backups within 14 days.
• Payments go through Paddle. I never see your payment details, and you can cancel online at any time.
