Format
Author, A. A., & Author, B. B. (Year). Title of the article. Journal Name, Volume(Issue), pages. https://doi.org/xxxx
- •The article title is in sentence case and not italic. The journal name is in title case and italic, and so is the volume.
- •The issue follows the volume in parentheses, not in italics: 331(6018), with only 331 in italics.
- •The DOI goes at the end as a link: https://doi.org/10.1126/science.1199327. Without a DOI, articles from databases need no URL.
- •List up to 20 authors. Before the last one comes an ampersand (&).

Common questions
What if the article has no DOI?
Leave the DOI out. If the article is freely available online, add its URL instead. Articles from academic databases such as EBSCO or JSTOR need neither.
How do I cite an article with three or more authors in the text?
Name the first author and add “et al.” from the first citation on: (Smith et al., 2020). With two authors name both: (Karpicke & Blunt, 2011).
