Format
Author, A. A. (Year, Month Day). Title of the page. Site Name. URL
- •Cite the specific page you used, not the whole website. The page title is in italics and in sentence case.
- •If the author is an organisation and also the site, leave the site name out so it does not appear twice.
- •No author: the page title moves to the front. No date: write (n.d.).
- •Pages without a date can change at any time, so they get the date you retrieved them: Retrieved October 22, 2026, from URL.

Common questions
What if there is no date?
Write (n.d.) for “no date” in place of the year, in the reference and in the text: (World Health Organization, n.d.). Do not use the copyright year in the footer of a website as the publication date unless it clearly belongs to the page.
What if there is no author?
Start the reference with the title of the page, then the date. In the text use the title in italics, shortened if it is long: (Mental Health, n.d.).
Do I cite a news site like BBC News as a website?
Yes. News websites without a print newspaper are cited like web pages, with the title in italics. For articles from newspapers such as The New York Times, see the newspaper format.
